Minnie Escapes, Big Wins: Creating income while Navigating Real Life

🧘🏽‍♀️Burnout, Sushi & Salford: A Soft Life in Manchester

Life lately has been… a lot. Between caring responsibilities, emotional burnout, and juggling business goals with mum life, it’s safe to say I’ve been feeling stretched. Some days are heavy. Others feel hopeful. But through it all, I’ve learned that escape doesn’t always have to mean boarding a plane.

Sometimes, your soul just needs a breather — a delicious meal, a cozy cinema night, a moment of stillness — or even seeing a few pounds roll into your bank account from work you did years ago.

Still Making Money from Content I Created Years Ago 💻💸

June brought an unexpected win: £107 earned from my Amazon publishing store. And what makes this even sweeter is that it came from notebooks and journals I created back in 2021–2023 — proof that digital products can generate passive income over time, even when life gets in the way.

One of my favourites is this Travel Planner Journal — perfect for mapping out your dream adventures, even if they haven’t happened yet. If you’re creative or passionate about travel and want to monetise that, publishing your own content could be a powerful first step.

Navigating Family, Burnout & The Need for Escape

Behind the scenes, I’ve been supporting and safeguarding my dad — an emotionally draining and complex role, especially given our relationship dynamic. It’s like parenting a parent. There’s no manual, and the weight can feel heavy.

In moments like these, I cling to my little joys — which is why and how Minnie Escapes was born. It’s a space for me to reconnect with myself, reflect on the things that bring light, and remember I’m more than my responsibilities.

Mini Escapes in Manchester: Salford Sushi & Cinema Magic

Lately, my travels have stayed within Manchester — but that doesn’t mean they’ve been any less meaningful.

We recently celebrated my son’s swimming achievement with a family meal at Kitten in Deansgate Square. Mondays are perfect — they offer 50% off the menu, so we really got to explore.

🍣 My top menu picks:

  • Jaga-Imu Taytos (crispy, salty perfection)
  • Spicy Tuna Uramaki Rolls
  • And that dreamy pear-shaped cocktail — light, sweet, and so refreshing

The interior is beautiful, moody and modern — perfect for celebrating a milestone or just treating yourself.

Vue Quayside: A Cinema Retreat Worth Repeating

Another recent gem? A cinema trip to Vue Manchester Quayside. Book online (it’s cheaper!), kicked back in the Lux Recliner, and disappeared into a film for two hours of pure luxury and lots of tasty snacks.

🎬 Free parking, no city centre stress, and recliner seats that feel like a first-class cabin — easily the best cinema experience in Manchester.

New Discovery: Oxygen Activeplay at MediaCity

Facing the cinema, I spotted the new Oxygen Activeplay — and it’s a paradise for kids of all ages.

👟 From 24 trampolines and interactive strike zones, to high ropes and a dedicated Toddler Ventures area, it’s exactly the kind of space that gives my little ones joy and burns all that wild energy. Saturday’s looking busy… but in the best way.

As someone who avoids driving into town, MediaCity is ideal — it offers a whole world of entertainment without the overwhelm. I’ve already booked further events to attend twice this month, and I’m not mad about it.

When You Miss the Big Things — and Why That’s Okay

End of June 25, I’d been planning to attend two summer festivals: Haze at Six Trees and David Rodigan at Freight Island. I had the tickets. I was excited. And then… I just didn’t go.

The energy wasn’t there. I was exhausted. And instead of forcing myself through it, I gave myself permission to rest. Was there guilt? Yes. But there was also peace.

Right now, reclaiming joy on my own terms is more important than performing excitement for events I no longer have capacity for.

However, These little escapes — sushi dinners, cinema nights, journaling in cafés — they’re enough for me in this season.

Closing Thoughts: Freedom Is a Mindset

Even though I’m not hopping on a plane right now, I’m still finding freedom — in family, in food, in digital wins, and in choosing me. These mini escapes matter. They reset me. And I want that for you, too.
