The Birthday Trip That Started Everything Minnie Escapes Stay Edit™ | BeLive Collection Marrakech Adults Only · Palmeraie, Marrakech · December 2024

 December in Marrakech.

My 39th birthday. Solo.

Not my first time in Morocco — not even my first time in Marrakech. But my first time arriving entirely alone, with no itinerary to share, no one else’s preferences to fold into the plan, and nowhere to be except exactly where I chose.

It felt like a gift I’d given myself.

The Stay

BeLive Collection Marrakech Adults Only · All Inclusive · Palmeraie

The BeLive Collection sits in the Palmeraie — Marrakech’s palm grove — a beautiful, residential pocket of the city that feels worlds away from the medina’s intensity. Surrounded by palm trees, open sky, and the warm stillness of a Moroccan December, this adults-only all-inclusive became exactly the kind of base a solo birthday trip needs: somewhere to return to, exhale, and feel genuinely held.

The grounds are what you notice first. Lush, manicured gardens. Two outdoor pools — one heated, one with a swim-up bar — set within landscaping that invites you to slow down before you’ve even changed. It’s the kind of property where an unplanned afternoon by the pool stops feeling like wasted time and starts feeling like the point.

The rooms are spacious and well-appointed — and yes, the bath with the TV is exactly as good as it sounds. There were days I earned a full duvet morning and took it without apology. That is a feature, not an indulgence.

The Bay Spa deserves its own mention. Seven treatment rooms, a steam room, sauna, Turkish bath, and an indoor pool. I gave myself an afternoon here and left softer — in every sense. For a solo traveller celebrating a milestone birthday, a solo spa afternoon is one of the finest things you can do for yourself.

The shuttle bus to the medina runs regularly, making the city completely accessible without the need to negotiate taxis every time. I used it, loved it, and appreciated how much it freed up my energy for the things I actually wanted to do once I arrived.

Evenings were lively. The hotel has entertainment most nights — live bands, a DJ, dancing. On my birthday, I went to Nouba restaurant for a dinner and entertainment experience that was exactly the kind of evening a 39th birthday deserves: colour, music, celebration, and the particular joy of celebrating yourself without needing anyone to witness it.

What I’d tell a client: BeLive Collection is a brilliant all-inclusive base for solo travellers and adults who want comfort, energy, and easy city access without being embedded in the medina. The spa and pools make stay-in days genuinely restorative. The shuttle makes go-out days effortless. It earns its place in a curated Morocco birthday itinerary — and I say that as someone who also visited the Royal Mansour on the same trip.

A Birthday Itinerary Worth Knowing

This wasn’t a passive trip. Between pool days and spa mornings, I packed in:

Nouba Restaurant — birthday dinner and entertainment. The atmosphere was electric and exactly right for the occasion.

Nobu Rooftop — sunset drinks. The kind of view that earns its reputation.

Royal Mansour Marrakech — lunch at Le Jardin as a day guest. More on this below.

YSL Museum and Majorelle Gardens — one of Marrakech’s most beautiful afternoons. The cobalt blue is as extraordinary in person as every photograph promises.

I also took a full duvet day. Spa afternoon. Room Television from the bath. No apology.

That balance — ambitious days and deliberate rest — is something I try to build into every Morocco itinerary I curate for clients. The city rewards it.

What This Trip Started

Somewhere between the Nobu rooftop and the Majorelle Gardens, between a solo birthday dinner and an afternoon in the gardens of the Royal Mansour, something clarified.

I had been travelling to Morocco for years. I knew what made a stay exceptional. I knew the difference between a base that simply housed you and a space that genuinely held you.

I knew, sitting in that garden in December, that this knowledge was worth something.

When I returned home from this birthday trip, I began sharing content documenting the journey. Someone found it. A conversation began. In January 2025, I became an independent travel agent.

Travel had always been my passion. This trip was where it became my purpose.

Not every birthday changes you. But some do.
